Villa Rams Woerthe - English

Did you know that this is also called the Downton Abbey of Overijssel? Villa Rams Woerthe was built for the wealthy Tromp Meesters family. The architectural firm Van Gendt built one of their most expensive villas with this house. You can clearly see that in the elegant wrought iron art nouveau details, the colorful stained glass and the extensive service wing. We are happy to show you more about the architecture, the interior and the residents. Are you coming by?

Rams Woerthe

An Art Nouveau gem
The villa has a well-preserved interior in which well-known designers and decorators have collaborated. Impressive are the paintings, glazed tiles, marble paneling, huge fireplaces, the oak staircase and the stained glass.

A lot of attention was paid to the interior, with furniture and finishes in a variety of styles. The large stained glass window in the stairwell is one of the Art Nouveau gems of Villa Rams Woerthe. It was designed by Adolf le Comte and is entitled 'The Spring'.

Rams Woerthe

Looking inside and out
This imposing villa was built in 1899 and is a beautiful example of the 'New Art', the Dutch variant of Jugendstil or Art Nouveau.

In addition to the imposing house, the surrounding Park Rams Woerthe is also a national monument. The Utrecht landscape architect Hendrik Copijn, known for the park of Castle De Haar, was responsible for the 10 ha landscape park that is laid out in English landscape style. In the park there was also a gazebo, a tea dome, a bandstand, a bowling alley and a number of greenhouses and barns.

From the garden room you have a beautiful view of the park and the deer that walk by. The villa is higher than the park, so you do not see any fencing and it looks like the deer are walking in the "wild". The view of the park had to give the viewer the idea to look into the "wild" nature.

The kitchen is a picture
One of the cosiest (and often warmest) places of Villa Rams Woerthe is the kitchen. With its beautiful tiles and granito tops, it is the dream of many cook. You look out over the park, but the cook and girls of the past will probably have had little time to stare dreamily in front of them. At parties it must have been a hustle and bustle here.
